Alister - Matera

Review by Uli Armbruster

Alister's latest album, Matera, is a mesmerizing collection of songs that showcases the artist's unique blend of folk, rock, and electronic music. The album takes its name from the ancient Italian city of Matera, which serves as a backdrop for many of the tracks.

From the opening track, "The Call," Alister's haunting vocals draw the listener in, accompanied by a pulsing beat and ethereal synth sounds. The album's standout track, "Burning Bridges," features a driving rhythm and soaring chorus, while "The Other Side" is a more introspective ballad that showcases Alister's lyrical prowess.

Throughout the album, Alister's songwriting is both poetic and personal, exploring themes of love, loss, and self-discovery. The production is also top-notch, with lush arrangements and intricate soundscapes that add depth and texture to the songs.

In 2002, after the arrival of new members, Marko Ognjanović (lead guitar) and Miloš Simić (keyboards), ALISTER was ready to promote their first album. The first big step was Belgrades Hard & Heavy Fest in March 2002. Other concerts, like Paul DiAnnos concert in Belgrade, gigs in Smederevo, Jagodina, Ćuprija, etc. followed it.
