Sa Re Ga Machan is an incredible album by the late Ananda Shankar, a legendary Indian musician known for his fusion of traditional Indian music with Western rock and jazz. The album, released in 1977, showcases Shankar's unique style and virtuosity on the sitar, accompanied by a talented group of musicians on drums, bass, guitar, and keyboards.
The opening track, "Streets of Calcutta," sets the tone for the album with its energetic and upbeat rhythm, blending Indian classical music with funk and rock. The album also features several covers of popular songs, including "Jumpin' Jack Flash" by The Rolling Stones and "Light My Fire" by The Doors, which Shankar masterfully adapts to his sitar and the Indian musical tradition.
One of the standout tracks on the album is "Dancing Drums," a dynamic and hypnotic piece that showcases Shankar's incredible skill on the sitar, accompanied by a pulsating rhythm section that keeps the groove going throughout the song.
