About The AvantGarde
American psychedelic pop group formed by Chuck Woolery and Elkin "Bubba" Fowler in 1967. Fowler went on to a career as a folk singer. Woolery became a country music artist and later became a game show host.

The guy standing up is Bubba Fowler, later going by his given name of Elkin Thomas. Shortly after this song, he recorded an album for Columbia Records then went on a world tour backing up Leonard Cohen. Before The Avante Garde, both he and Chuck were part of a group, The Borderman (along with Mike, I forgot his last name), that won the Ted Mack's Original Amateur Hour contest. Chuck & Bubba were and still are heavily influenced by their faith in God. Remember, Bob Dylan was recording at Columbia when this went down, too.

This is just an excellent song from 1968. First heard this song on first release on the flight line at Kadena A F B standing in front of an F-105. Must be special when you can remember where you were and what you were doing the first time you heard it. Had to sneak the transister radio onto the flight line.
