Review by HyeMiMi Chan

The album Violinkonzert D ur Op 61 by Beethoven, Henryk Szeryng, Bernard Haitink, and ConcertgebouwOrchester, Amsterdam is a musical masterpiece that showcases the brilliant talents of its performers. The album features Beethoven's Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 61, which is widely regarded as one of the greatest works in the violin repertoire.

Henryk Szeryng delivers a stunning performance on the violin, capturing the beauty and complexity of Beethoven's composition with precision and grace. His interpretation is complemented by the expert conducting of Bernard Haitink, who leads the ConcertgebouwOrchester with skill and sensitivity.

The album is a true feast for the ears, with each movement of the concerto offering something new and exciting. The first movement is a majestic showcase of the violin's range and power, while the second movement is a hauntingly beautiful adagio that showcases Beethoven's mastery of melody. The final movement is a lively and energetic rondo that brings the concerto to a thrilling conclusion.

The recording quality is excellent, capturing the full range of the orchestra and the delicate nuances of Szeryng's performance. The ConcertgebouwOrchester is in top form, delivering a rich and vibrant sound that perfectly complements Szeryng's virtuosity.

German composer and pianist, born in 1770 (baptized 17 December 1770) in Bonn, Germany and died 26 March 1827 in Vienna, Austria. A crucial figure in the transition between the Classical and Romantic eras in classical music. Beethoven led Viennese Classicism to its highest development and paved the way for Romantic music. Beethoven was the eldest son of a singer in the Kapelle of the Archbishop-Elector of Cologne and grandson of the Archbishop's Kapellmeister. He moved in 1792 to Vienna, where he had some lessons from Haydn and others, quickly establishing himself as a remarkable keyboard-player and original composer. By 1815 increasing deafness made public performance impossible and accentuated existing eccentricities of character, patiently tolerated by a series of rich patrons and his royal pupil the Archduke Rudolph. Beethoven did much to enlarge the possibilities of music and widen the horizons of later generations of composers. To his contemporaries he was sometimes a controversial figure, making heavy demands on listeners both by the length and by the complexity of his writing, as he explored new fields of music.
