Buddy Curtess And The Grasshoppers - Hello Suzie

Review by Brenda Tillmann

Hello Suzie, the 1967 album by Buddy Curtess And The Grasshoppers, is a classic example of the garage rock sound that was popular during the mid-1960s. The album features a mix of original songs and covers, all played with a raw, energetic style that typifies the genre.

The album's title track, "Hello Suzie," is a standout, with its catchy guitar riff and memorable chorus. Other highlights include the band's cover of the Kinks' "You Really Got Me," which features a blistering guitar solo, and the original song "Go Ahead and Cry," a mid-tempo ballad that showcases Curtess' emotive vocals.

The album's production is intentionally lo-fi, with a raw, gritty sound that perfectly captures the energy and urgency of the band's live performances. The Grasshoppers' musicianship is impressive throughout, with tight, propulsive rhythms and fiery guitar work.

This was a brilliant band to see. Still the most energetic live act I’ve ever seen. Tremendous and uplifting.

I think these guys supported Shaky in the 80s and they were great.
