Once again, an inspiring display of freedom. While it may sound chaotic, I believe this is more a showcase of true exploration as well as technical skill. He clearly has an extremely firm grasp on rhythm but chooses to explore obscure note combinations. This combined with extremely clean note sequences sometimes played at breakneck speed with surgical precision makes for a sound that I have never heard out of any pianists. If anyone can suggest more artists like this I would love to broaden my new list. Thanks for posting :)

This is beautiful. Mr. Taylor's life and work are a recent discovery of mine, along with Sam Rivers'. I feel as if free form improvisation and exploration constitute the absolute pinnacle of what may be refer to as "jazz".

Ahh, free jazz, free music, no discernible rules...

Sometimes, it seems like those reviewing Cecil's recordings are afraid to point out when he might be bullshitting us. But this is not one of those times. This still stands, after 46 years, as one of his most emotionally profound statements on record.

One of the greatest recordings of the 20th century.

Lots of people I know listen to this and hear only chaos and noise and confusion, but this is the sound of complete mental freedom, the mind allowed to break from all constraints and roam everywhere at once.

Thanks for the preview. I received the latest new release email from ORG music today. They have remastered and reissued this LP. I don't want to purchase albums that aren't worth spending some time with for repeated listening. This is definitely engaging stuff, demanding without being exhausting, and some crunchy grooves in the mix, full of surprises. I think it might grow on me.
