(1904, Saint Petersburg, Russian Empire - 1987, Moscow, USSR) was a Soviet composer, conductor, pianist, teacher, publicist, public figure.
Academician of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences (1971). Hero of Socialist Labor (1974). People's Artist of the USSR (1963). He is a laureate of the Lenin Prize (1972), three Stalin Prizes (1946, 1949, 1951), the USSR State Prize (1980) and the Glinka State Prize of the RSFSR (1966).
