Damita Jo - Sings

Review by Hoang Truong DDS

Damita Jo's album Sings is a classic example of her vocal prowess and musical versatility. Released in 1960, the album features a mix of jazz, blues, and pop songs that showcase Damita's range and depth as a singer.

The album opens with the upbeat and jazzy "I'll Be There," which sets the tone for the rest of the album. Damita's smooth, soulful voice carries the listener through each track, whether it's the bluesy "Easy Living" or the swinging "Don't Say Goodnight."

One standout track on the album is "Blue Prelude," a hauntingly beautiful ballad that showcases Damita's ability to convey emotion through her voice. Her rendition of "Love Me or Leave Me" is also noteworthy, as she infuses the song with a sense of longing and vulnerability.

Excellent song !

Her voice had more depth than Nancy Wilson's and she sang with better intonation. In short, a better singer than Wilson. Also a beauty.
