Elefant - Sunlight Makes Me Paranoid

Review by Martin Preiss

Sunlight Makes Me Paranoid by Elefant is a captivating album that showcases the band's unique sound and style. The album features a mix of indie-pop and rock with a touch of electronic music. The lead singer's voice is mesmerizing and adds depth to the lyrics, which explore themes of love, heartbreak, and self-discovery.

The album opens with the title track, "Sunlight Makes Me Paranoid," which sets the tone for the rest of the album. The song is intense, with a driving beat and powerful vocals. It's followed by "Misfit," which has a more laid-back vibe but still manages to be catchy and memorable.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Now That I Miss Her," which features a haunting melody and poignant lyrics. The song builds to a powerful chorus that will stay with listeners long after the song has ended.

Another highlight of the album is "The Clown," which features a catchy guitar riff and infectious chorus. The song is upbeat and fun, but the lyrics hint at a darker side, adding an element of complexity to the track.

When I play this record, my imagination doesn't associate Garcia's vocals with Morrissey. Instead, I pick up a rocker's swagger akin to, say, Pulp illustrious frontman, Jarvis Cocker. Frankly, when I first heard this record, I was blown away. It was fresh and took me back to the time when Glam Rock had its dramatic appeal and influence. Move ahead on the timeline continuum and you have the Post-punk sounds, creating dark, emotional music that again really had an influence on my developing musical tastes. Sunlight. borders on a brooding romanticism that stirs my emotions in a way that some way hot babe in the club grabs my attention and I stand too cool to pop thinking of how I can curry her fancy. [Laughing]. Now it's 2018 and I pulled this record out to break up my current Prog Rock/Ambient Electronic phase and found that it hasn't held up over the years yet still had me savoring track after track because I just dig the sound.

Al inicio, me recuerda a una canción de The Strokes, llamada "Modern Age".

I fell in love with this album at age 14/15, after my parents split, I introduced it to my mum and we would listen to it in her car, it was a bonding moment for the sadness we both felt. Thinking about this all it makes me think I need to make my mum a mixtape, I always used to introduce her to music, and I lost track of that when I grew up. Thanks for the nostalgia and inspiration Elefant.
