Eric was one of the inner circle DYLAN-ITES from Greenwich Village in the mid-1960's. My band (Dreamland Choo Choo) played along side those dudes in clubs like THE CAFE WHA?, THE DUGOUT, THE BITTER END...he is one of the greats from that era...and believe me he had a loyal and solid following...he was not some unknown.....

Thomas - yes Eric's a great songwriter and has been for a long time and Blue River is fantastic. I've been a fan since the mid-60's. He's great. My favorite is Dusty Box Car Walls. But he wrote a bunch of other great songs. Very underrated songwriter.

Eric Anderson was a good friend of Ricky Nelson (who, ironically, has the real first name of Eric. Eric Hilliard Nelson to be exact).
Anyway, Eric Anderson wrote the beautiful song "Violets Of Dawn" which Ricky Nelson included in many of his live shows, and I find it disgusting that Anderson is never considered when some of the great song writers in history are talked about.

Thanks to Mr.Abargle for posting this; imagine Eric Andersen performing on Johnny Cash. It speaks volumes about the both of them in '71. Awesome, really.

I learned to sing, play guitar and harmonica from Eric's old albums. All these years later I'm still playing. Thanks, Eric, for a lifetime of music.

@davidlenander Excellent synopsis of this great artist's career. I would only emphasize that the three songs you mentioned are generally thought of as modern folk classics. Also that Columbia Records' misplacing of his follow up recordings to the seminal singer-songwriter album Blue River really hurt his career.

I just discovered Danko Fjeld Andersen's "One More Shot." The remastered rerelease with the second CD of live tracks is a treasure that I have been listening to over and over. What age has subtracted from Andersen's voice it has enhanced in the form of wisdom and experience. And if you've forgotten how marvelously Danko harmonizes, "One More Shot" will remind you in spades.

Incidentally, it's "Andersen" with an -en ending, rather than the more common -on. He wrote "Violets of Dawn," "Thirsty Boots," "Blue River," among other much-covered songs, and was one of the first "New Dylans." He's still going strong today (with less voice) but writing as well or better than ever. You can find him on YouTube in various phases of his life and career. For a while he was part of a trio with Rick Danko of The Band.
