She is very famous in Europe and singers still today take her as their idol. Many musicians began to sing because of her. Unfortunately, here in the US not that many know who she is. A truly American star.

I first heard Eva Cassidy on a news program going off. They introduced her name and she had passed just not long before this. I instantly fell in love with her voice. This girl could go through the roof and hit the stars with her wonderful voice. If she had lived, I know she would have made a giant mark in her music and on the world. She was a very nice person and the black people on loved her voice. I have I think 6 of her CDs. Kelli Clarkson is a huge fan of hers. Good taste Kelli.

Such a sweet girl...such a sweet voice. I really believe God called her home because He wanted her voice before His throne.

Like many of you, I am one of those awestruck musicians obsessed with Eva Cassidy's vocal abilities. One aspect of her vocal genius I find so interesting and mesmerizing is her natural ability to harmonize. In this song, she gives it new energy and makes it hers by changing many of the normal first or second lyric notes and sometimes both lyric notes in the stanza lines to a higher harmonizing note.
Example at 0:49/0:59 "OH baby, how you DROVE me crazy - Well I guess it doesn't matter anymore." She also changes normal notes to harmonizing notes in other parts of the lyrics, as well, such as in this chorus example: 1:56/2:45
In her bio book "Behind the Rainbow," it was said when Eva was very young, the family sang barbershop style harmonies together, and whenever a song came on the radio, Eva would always sing a second part harmony. And Daddy Hugh would callout when to change to the next level harmonies. Recording studio engineer/owner, Chris Biondo said he found it amazing how fast Eva could add four part harmony to her songs. Each track was usually performed in one take. In a rare interview with Eva, she said her favorite thing to do in a recording was to add choir background vocals.
Thus, the natural ability to sing multi-level harmony is just one of many reasons why I think Eva Cassidy is the greatest singer/musician of all time.
