Review by Adil Ansari

The Fabulous Studio Band has done it again with their latest album, Still Swingin After All These Years. The band's signature sound is present in every track, with their smooth jazz and swing-inspired beats that are perfect for any occasion.

The album opens with the upbeat and energetic "Jumpin' Jive," which sets the tone for the rest of the record. The band's tight arrangements and precise playing are evident throughout the album, particularly in tracks like "Take the A Train" and "In the Mood."

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Fly Me to the Moon," which features a beautiful trumpet solo that is both soulful and technically impressive. The band's ability to seamlessly blend different genres and styles is also showcased in "Sir Duke," which takes Stevie Wonder's classic funk tune and turns it into a swinging jazz number.

About Fabulous Studio Band

In 1953 Musical Director Frank "Buck" Shaffer moved to Porterville, CA and formed The Fabulous Studio Band of about 20 students from both the Porterville High School and the Porterville Community College. The second studio band of its kind in California, FSB went on to play around the world in many famous venues throughout decades. Their third album "Have Band Will Travel" released in 1963(?) is a compilation from the bands songs after being sent on tour to play for GIs in Japan, Okinawa, Korea, and Hawaii. According to buckshaffer.com, "the tour lasted six weeks and the Band appeared on Nippon TV and did a Far East network radio show that followed President Kennedy and his famous address on the Berlin Situation." The fourth album from the FSB, released in 1972(?) "Celebrates 20 Years in the 20th Century" is their last and final album under the direction of Shaffer. Some of these are believed to be recorded/pressed in Santa Maria, CA(?). In 1996 and 2000 two CDs were independently released by the FSB under the direction of Jim Kusserow, "Still Swingin' After All These Years (96)," and "Plays Capitol Jazz (00)." Today the Fabulous Studio Band continues under the direction of Clark Keele.
