Gentlemen Without Weapons - Unconditional Love Extended Mix

Review by Lucy Rock

Gentlemen Without Weapons' album Unconditional Love Extended Mix is a captivating and soulful collection of tracks that showcase the band's immense musical talent. The album features a range of sounds and styles, from the upbeat and funky "Everlasting" to the dreamy and ethereal "Angel Eyes".

The band's signature sound, a fusion of world music, electronica, and rock, is on full display throughout the album, with each track offering something new and unique. The production is top-notch, with intricate layers of instrumentation and vocals that blend together seamlessly.

Standout tracks include the hypnotic "Surrender", the anthemic "One World", and the hauntingly beautiful "Love and Understanding". The lyrics are thoughtful and reflective, with themes of love, peace, and unity woven throughout.

Interesting to know that Storm Thorgerson directed this since he also directed the Nik Kershaw videos, and the Pink Floyd concert screen films for 1987 and 1994. Wish all of Storm Thorgerson's videos were all released in Blu-Ray in one collectionlike the Pink Floyd videos in The Later Years.

I loved this song when it was first released and the album "Transmissions" by the group should definitely be reissused as it was ahead of it's time in how it was recorded no instruments were used, but multiple samples of animal and natural sounds, a brilliant album about climate change, endangered species etc all things still relevant to day. A track designed to open people's minds and raise awareness of the damage we are doing and still doing to the planet. This track is still relevant today as it was on it's release, maybe we should start a campaign to get it re-issused as it it is such a brilliant album tat was really overlooked at the time, but is a lost gem of a record

Wow. I remember this song coming on MTV late at night when I was about 10 years old and its stuck in my head ever since and Ive never been able to find it until now. No one knew what I was talking about when ever I mentioned it. Now here we are 25 years or so later I'm getting to see the video again. It's slightly different to what my memory stored about it. But still... I can't believe I've finally found it!

Illuminati? No, it's just that your typical rock radio station thinks this is all a bit too "new agey"

I used to play this a fair bit on my radio program in the late 80s and early 90s, I own a copy of the vinyl single.

Consider "Land of Confusion" by Genesis, that has a very similar idea, get off your bottom and start doing the right thing... Was that locked in a cabinet by strange figures in black?
No, and it's played on the radio practically every day.

I like the song, it was just forgotten

Thank you alleycatu! Thank you Internet! Finally... And never mind the "Illuminatti" paranoia. That's just how fundamentalist christians label those who dare to think different from them.

I'm just going through some old cassettes of things recorded from Radio 1 in 1988 when I was 16. I found this track and remember how much I loved it back then. Janice Long absolutely raved about it, saying that it was a fantastic example of what could be achieved with sampling, Fairlights etc. I had to look for it on YouTube, and it's an absolute joy to hear it again. And yes, it's still relevant.

Classic underrated and obscure '80s hit. Someone gave me a 90 minute Maxell CrO² tape with this song on it.
