Jeff St John & The Copperwine - Hummingbird

Review by Raymond Zayas

Jeff St John & The Copperwine's "Hummingbird" is a classic album that showcases the group's undeniable talent and musical prowess. The album is a perfect blend of rock, blues, and soul, with each track offering a unique and captivating sound.

From the opening track "Teach Me How To Fly" to the closing number "Crystal Ball," the album is a masterclass in musicality. The band's tight instrumentation and St John's soulful vocals make each track a joy to listen to.

Standout tracks on the album include "Big Time Operator," a funky and upbeat tune that will get you dancing, and "A Fool In Love," a bluesy ballad that showcases St John's emotional range. The title track "Hummingbird" is also a highlight, with its catchy melody and memorable chorus.

So sad to hear of Jeff's passing on the 6th March '18. Thanks for everything you gave us Jeff over 4 + decades, esp in recent years thru your FB page. Will really miss you, but am very relieved for you - now that you can Rest In Peace - free from pain.

By all accounts, "Joint Effort" was a Joint effort at Festival Records. Wayne Lanham, playing Bass in this clip, was not On the Album, but joined before it was released. Copperwine, without Jeff, played at the "Crystal Palace" pub at Central, and Sundays at the "Smokey Dawson Ranch".
