Review by Tsubasa MOCHIDA

The Verdi Rigoletto album, featuring Joan Sutherland, Luciano Pavarotti, Sherrill Milnes, The London Symphony Orchestra, and Richard Bonynge, is a stunning masterpiece that showcases the talents of some of the most renowned classical musicians of all time. The album features a collection of Verdi's most beloved arias, including "La donna è mobile" and "Questa o quella," performed with unparalleled passion, precision, and artistry.

The London Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Richard Bonynge, provides a lush and dynamic accompaniment to the vocal performances, adding depth, drama, and emotion to the already powerful music. The vocal performances themselves are breathtaking, with each singer bringing a unique and compelling interpretation to their respective roles.

Joan Sutherland's soprano voice is as clear and pure as ever, bringing a delicate beauty to her performances. Luciano Pavarotti's tenor voice is rich and expressive, conveying a range of emotions from joy to despair with ease. Sherrill Milnes' baritone voice is powerful and commanding, adding gravitas and depth to the ensemble.

That is my alltime favorite version of this magnificent quartet. Sutherland's final high note is astounding, and a thousand times more beautiful and exciting than the version Verdi wrote, and other sopranos sing.

My dear aunt and uncle came to stay the night. I had opera playing in the kitchen over a Bluetooth speaker as I did dishes. They were drawn to the speaker sound, the opera. I gather they both like me appreciate the incredible discipline of such highly developed voices.

I had them wait to listen to this soprano’s final ending note of this piece, before going to bed.

I began to laugh with the sounding of that last note, and once concluded we all laughed. They were grateful I had them wait and listen. They’ll be delighted to hear this stand alone piece with this unique end note, and the education I’ve gained here with your comments on Paverotti and Joan Sutherland.

Put me living in Venice, Italy, in a sculpting studio with opera like this to attend concerts of and I could not think of a more heavenly setting on earth.

I wonder in the royal courts on high with the choruses of angels, if they have Giuseppe Verdi, Joan Sutherland, and Paverotti pulling off notes like that finalè?

I could listen and listen and listen, having that on a loop. So exalting and divine!

Pavarotti learned everything he knew about breath support and the diaphragm from Joan Sutherland. It's no wonder they sing so well together and were friends until death.

The word "beauty" doesn't even begin to describe Sutherland's final note. I don't believe Verdi wrote that note, but when other sopranos fail to sing it I'm...disappointed.

There are three instances when Joan Sutherland's singing has literally given me an orgasm. The quartet from Rigoletto, the sextet from Lucia di Lammermoor and the Bell Song from Lakme.

Dame Joan's fantastically strong soprano make any version of this song with her in it unparalleled! Even Pava cannot outsing her! And Huguette's sweet mezzo is an added bonus! Thank you for this wonderful experience!~

Does anyone else sing that last note that Joan Sutherland hits? It's absolutely perfect and, with the several other recordings I have, the soprano doesn't sing the high note.

Learnt from Joan on their Williamson Tour in the 60s by all accounts.
