Joe Valino - Garden Of Eden Caravan

Review by Edward David Lingad

Joe Valino's album Garden of Eden Caravan is a delightful collection of songs that transport the listener to a world of lush greenery, exotic animals, and tranquil landscapes. The album features a mix of traditional and contemporary styles, with Valino's smooth vocals and expert guitar playing at the forefront.

The opening track, "Garden of Eden Caravan," sets the tone for the album with its upbeat tempo and catchy melody. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of a caravan traveling through the jungle, encountering all manner of creatures along the way. "Serenade of the Nightingale" is a beautiful ballad that showcases Valino's range as a singer, while "Mystical Forest" is a haunting instrumental that evokes the mystery and wonder of the natural world.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Amazonian Dream," a lively tune that features Valino's intricate guitar work and a driving rhythm section. The song is a tribute to the Amazon rainforest and its diverse ecosystem, and Valino's lyrics capture the beauty and majesty of this unique environment.

I'd heard of this song and this singer, thanks to Norm N. Nite's classic book, Rock On Volume 1, but never heard this version till now. I have Narvel Felts's version on my iPod, and that comes up every now and then on shuffle.

Was this the original version? I remember there were at least 5 versions of it in the UK, and the biggest was the one that I thought was the worst (Sorry Frankie!).

Didn't Matt Munro record this song on Decca UK as well (long before his hits "My Kind of Girl" and "Walk Away")?

The Garden Of Eden was released in late 1956 on Vik records a sub of RCA.  It was then re-released on RCA in 1960 and then in 1970 by RCA on their Gold Standard series.

This version is new to me but I like it, even though I'm more familiar with the late Frankie Vaughan's version. Thanks for posting, GoldenOldies!

@Omaharhar There was a disco version as well, by a group called Hot RS. They performed it as a medley with (appropriately enough) "In A Gadda Da Vida".
