Review by Jennifer Mihalchik

Flute Sonatas by JS Bach, performed by Milan Munclinger, Josef Hála, and František Sláma, is a stunning collection of works showcasing the beauty and technical prowess of the flute. The album features intricate and melodic compositions from the legendary Johann Sebastian Bach, performed with precision and passion by the talented musicians.

The album opens with the lively and joyful Sonata in B Minor, BWV 1030, which sets the tone for the rest of the collection. The musicians' technical abilities are on full display in the intricate and challenging passages, while the slower and more contemplative sections demonstrate their emotional depth and sensitivity.

The Sonata in E-Flat Major, BWV 1031, is a standout track, with its delicate and graceful melodies and intricate interplay between the flute and keyboard. The musicians' harmonious collaboration is particularly evident in this piece, as they seamlessly weave together to create a truly beautiful and ethereal sound.

The album closes with the Sonata in A Major, BWV 1032, a lively and energetic piece that showcases the musicians' virtuosity and technical prowess. The fast-paced and intricate passages are executed flawlessly, while the slower and more contemplative sections are imbued with a sense of longing and introspection.

About JS Bach, Milan Munclinger, Josef Hála, František Sláma

Johann Sebastian Bach was born on March 21, 1685 in Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany. A prolific German composer and organist, his sacred and secular works for choir, orchestra and solo instruments drew together the strands of the baroque genre and brought it to its ultimate maturity. Although he introduced no new forms, he enriched the prevailing German style with a robust contrapuntal technique, a control of harmonic and motivic organisation from the smallest to the largest scales, and the adaptation of rhythms and textures from abroad, particularly Italy and France. Many people consider him to be the greatest Baroque composer, and one of the greatest composers of all time. Revered for their intellectual depth, technical command and artistic beauty, J.S. Bach's works include the Brandenburg concertos, the keyboard suites and partitas, the Mass in B Minor, the St. Matthew Passion, The Musical Offering, The Art of Fugue and a large number of cantatas, of which about 220 survive. He died on July 28, 1750. Some of his sons also became composers - , , and .
