Kristianstads Storband's album "Miller Basie" is a delightful homage to two of the most iconic big band leaders of the swing era. The ensemble, led by conductor and arranger Anders Berglund, showcases their technical prowess and musical sensitivity throughout the album's 14 tracks.
From the opening track, "In the Mood," to the closing number, "One O'Clock Jump," the band's tight ensemble playing and soloists' virtuosity shine through. The arrangements are faithful to the original recordings of the Glenn Miller and Count Basie bands, yet they also bring a fresh perspective to the music.
One of the standout tracks is "Moonlight Serenade," which features a lush saxophone section and a beautiful solo by trombonist Andreas Andersson. Another highlight is "April in Paris," which captures the Basie band's signature swing and features a lively piano solo by Johan Åström.
