About The Limeliters
The Limeliters are an American folk music group, formed in July 1959 by (bass), (baritone), and (tenor). The group was active from 1959 until 1965, when they disbanded.
After a hiatus of sixteen years Yarbrough, Hassilev, and Gottlieb reunited and began performing as The Limeliters again.
The Limeliters are still active and performing, but Hassilev, the last founding member active in the group, has retired, leaving the group to carry on without any of the original members.

Absolutely tremendous-guitar work, harmonies, humor. They could do it all. Only yesterday it seems.

I commented before and I'd like to do so today. Now I'm 85. I said that folk music was fun. We used to sit around Washington Square and play guitar and sing. There was no worry about violence or being mugged. People, even the most beatnik of them was courteous and friendly. I'm going to say something that will have younger people scream. Though politics was a part of folk music no one was an advocate for masked violence. No one tried to shout down someone you disagreed with. In those days you could be thrown out on your ear and no court would listen to your complaint.
You could go to a folk club and listen to really good acts for little money. The folks around you were nicely dressed and clean. College kids mostly. In the 60s college kids took showers.
There was no ombudsman if you felt put upon. Tough, get a life was the motto.
Listen to this music and realize that the period of enjoying college good times is fading fast. Now it's all activism by jerks who haven't done a dam thing with their lives.
Oh, well, there's always YouTube!!

Not only were these guys great vocalists they all were fantastic musicians. Grew up listening to their LPs that my parents had. They were products of their time, meaning their humor is Cold War based jokes. This is pre-Beatles, pre-civil rights and pre-voting rights and on the cusp of Vietnam. JFK was President. Alaska and Hawaii became states just 5 years prior to this.

They were called the Limeliters bc they liked to eat limes between sets. Those guys showed the Beatles everything they know. Which included eating a lot of limes.
EDIT: I am sorry. I thought this was the page for the Limelickers. I always confuse the Limeliters with the Limeliters.

I remember the Shaw Brothers sing this too. But yes, I remember the Limelighters as well.

I discovered them after watching Breaking Bad, "Take my true love by her hand" and I can't have enough of that song
