I may be in a minority here, but I like this album better than "Heart Like a Wheel." Obviously, HLaW does good hits, but there are also some tracks on that album which (to me) are just good songs. In addition, while I guess some value the genre-defining 70s sound of HLaW (with its poppy sweet guitar and ultra clean approach), I find it a bit dated and getting more so. (And I'm very open to period sound: there's just something particularly aging on HLaW.) Whereas there's real emotion on every from 'Don't Cry Now'; the songs by JD Souther are all subtle classics; and the mood is more consistent and less nostalgic. I've been listening the grooves off this one. My one complaint: I have a skip on 'I Believe in You'. Can someone go back in time and fix that?

That's Leland Sklar on Bass, Russ Kunkel on Drums, Sneaky Pete (RIP) on steel, and Larry Carlton on Guitar. Damn.

The great Buddy Emmons on Pedal Steel Guitar. The Big E, baby!!!!

This woman could have sang the label on the back of a cereal box and made it sound great
