Linda Ronstadt - Dont Cry Now

wateria

Review by Ria Marliana

Linda Ronstadt's 1973 album "Don't Cry Now" is a stunning display of her vocal prowess and versatility. The album features a mix of original songs and covers, all of which showcase Ronstadt's ability to seamlessly move between genres, from country to rock to pop.

The album's opening track, "I Can Almost See It", is a beautiful ballad that sets the tone for the rest of the album. Ronstadt's voice is tender and emotive, and the instrumentation is sparse and haunting.

Another standout track is the cover of Jackson Browne's "Rock Me On The Water". Ronstadt's version is upbeat and energetic, with a driving rhythm section and soaring harmonies.

The album also features a number of country-tinged tracks, including the heart-wrenching "Silver Blue" and the rollicking "Sail Away". Ronstadt's voice is perfectly suited for these songs, and she brings a depth of emotion to each performance.

I may be in a minority here, but I like this album better than "Heart Like a Wheel." Obviously, HLaW does good hits, but there are also some tracks on that album which (to me) are just good songs. In addition, while I guess some value the genre-defining 70s sound of HLaW (with its poppy sweet guitar and ultra clean approach), I find it a bit dated and getting more so. (And I'm very open to period sound: there's just something particularly aging on HLaW.) Whereas there's real emotion on every from 'Don't Cry Now'; the songs by JD Souther are all subtle classics; and the mood is more consistent and less nostalgic. I've been listening the grooves off this one. My one complaint: I have a skip on 'I Believe in You'. Can someone go back in time and fix that?
