Low + Dirty Three - In The Fishtank 7

In The Fishtank 7 is a collaborative album by the American indie rock band Low and the Australian instrumental trio Dirty Three. The album was recorded in just two days in 2001 at the invitation of the Dutch label Konkurrent, which released the record as part of their In The Fishtank series.
The album features six tracks that showcase the unique musical styles of both Low and Dirty Three. The opening track, "I Hear…Goodnight," begins with a solemn piano melody and builds into a haunting ballad that showcases the raw, emotional vocals of Low's Alan Sparhawk. The second track, "Down by the River," is a cover of the Neil Young classic that features a mesmerizing violin solo by Dirty Three's Warren Ellis.
The third track, "Lordy," is a slow-burning instrumental that showcases the atmospheric guitar work of Low's Mimi Parker and the dynamic drumming of Dirty Three's Jim White. The fourth track, "Invitation Day," is a melancholic ballad that features Sparhawk's vocals over a sparse piano melody.
The fifth track, "Cody," is a cover of the song by Low that originally appeared on their 1999 album, Things We Lost in the Fire. The In The Fishtank version features a more stripped-down arrangement that highlights the haunting beauty of the song's lyrics. The album closes with "La La La Song," a playful instrumental that showcases the playful interplay between the members of both bands.

- In November 1999 Konkurrent invited Low to record one of Konk's in house Fishtank-sessions. Low, being familiar with the series, accepted. In the spirit of 'In The Fishtank' Low took things a step further and extended the invitation to their friends Dirty Three to collaborate on the session which took place when both bands played the multi-media festival Crossing Border in Amsterdam.
