Mokoomba - Rising Tide

Review by Sheri Hoff

Rising Tide, the latest album by Zimbabwean Afro-fusion band Mokoomba, is a vibrant and energetic collection of songs that showcase the band's unique blend of traditional and contemporary sounds. From the opening track, "Mokole," with its infectious rhythms and catchy chorus, to the closing track, "Kumukanda," with its haunting vocals and hypnotic guitar lines, the album is a tour de force of African music.

Throughout the album, Mokoomba's musicianship and songwriting skills are on full display, with each track offering something new and exciting. The band's use of traditional instruments, such as the mbira, adds an authentic African flavor to the music, while the incorporation of modern elements, such as electronic beats and synths, gives the songs a contemporary edge.

One standout track on the album is "Njoka," a pulsating dance number that features lively percussion and soaring vocals. Another highlight is "Mwile," a more subdued and introspective track that showcases the band's ability to create beautiful, melodic music.
