Mumps - Crocodile Tears

Review by Tansy Bibeau

Crocodile Tears is the debut album by the American punk rock band Mumps. Released in 1978, the album features a blend of punk and power pop that was popular at the time. The album is known for its catchy hooks and infectious melodies, which have earned it a cult following among fans of the genre.

The album opens with the fast-paced "Crocodile Tears," which sets the tone for the rest of the record. The song features driving drums and a catchy guitar riff that will have listeners tapping their feet in no time. Other standout tracks include "I Like to Be Clean," a tongue-in-cheek song about personal hygiene, and "Muscle Boys," an ode to the bodybuilding subculture of the 70s.

One of the strengths of Crocodile Tears is the band's ability to balance punk aggression with pop sensibilities. While the songs are fast and energetic, they are also incredibly catchy and melodic. This makes the album accessible to a wider audience than just hardcore punk fans.

I love how it slides into an endorsement of eugenics. Really brilliant satire, the kitschy visuals enhance it beautifully. Really a great tribute to the song. Lance Loud was a rare human.

Visuals appropriately appropriated from 70s/early 80s soap and house cleaner commercials - did the band put this out or was it done by a fan?
