Nasum Asterisk's latest album, "Dogma II Colorless Green Ideas Sleep Furiously 24 31," is a tour de force of grindcore music. The album's title is a nod to the famous linguistic paradox that Noam Chomsky coined, and the music is just as complex and thought-provoking as the phrase itself.
From the opening track, "Dogma II," Nasum Asterisk unleashes a barrage of blast beats, guttural vocals, and dissonant guitar riffs. The songs are short and intense, averaging around two minutes, but they pack a lot of punch in that time.
One of the standout tracks is "Colorless Green Ideas Sleep Furiously," which features a slower, more melodic guitar riff that contrasts with the frenzied drumming and vocals. It's a welcome break from the relentless pace of the other songs and showcases Nasum Asterisk's ability to create dynamic compositions.
The album also features a bonus track, "24 31," which is a cover of a song by the Swedish punk band Charta 77. Nasum Asterisk's version is just as fast and furious as the original, but with a heavier, more modern sound.
