Review by Anita Fiouris

The Phil Seamen Trio's album, "Phil Seamen Meets Eddie Gomez," is an impressive display of jazz musicianship. The album features the late British drummer Phil Seamen, who is joined by the American bassist Eddie Gomez and pianist Stan Tracey.

The trio's performances on this album are tight and cohesive, with each member showcasing their individual talents while also working together to create a unified sound. Seamen's drumming is particularly noteworthy, as he brings a dynamic energy to each track that propels the music forward. Meanwhile, Gomez's bass playing is both melodic and rhythmic, and Tracey's piano provides a beautiful harmonic backdrop.

One standout track on the album is "The Night Has a Thousand Eyes," which features a lively, swinging rhythm and some impressive solos from each member of the trio. Another highlight is "My Funny Valentine," which is given a fresh, inventive treatment that showcases the trio's versatility.

A supremely gifted drummer ruined by decades of heroin abuse, but the height of
his powers Phil Seaman was the greatest jazz drummer to emerge from the UK.

Charlie Watts, Ginger Baker, and Mitch Mitchell would check him out whenever he
performed. This track shows Phil at his most sublime. Sheer effortless class.
