Oh man, what memories! I had the album my sister gave me and the poster that came with it. I have a photo of me playing my Ludwig drum set in my bedroom with the poster on the wall next to me among other posters of the day in 1971-72. Wish I could post the photo here.

Sounds like the Richy Furay/Jim Messina/Rusty Young/Timothy Schmidt/George Grantham era of Poco

Games seems inspired by Day Tripper.

So glad to see I'm not the only one who remembers this song from 1970. Heard it for the first time in Mammoth Lakes spending a weekend skiing in the Fall of 1970; lucky enough to pull in a signal from a rock station in Fresno 70 miles away. This didn't get any play in L.A. when I lived there -- just up in Mammoth Lakes. Never could figure that out.

Maybe it's the energy it has that was left over from the awesome seventies to remind us of what we sorely miss???????and have a nice day."???

These guys were on American Bandstand when this was released. I was in 5th grade in 1970 when I bought the 45. Every morning before class started Mrs. Sullivan would let us play a record on the school turntable. She let me put this on and all the other kids loved it. From then on I was always chosen first by the other students when we wanted to play something in the morning.

This song was a very brief hit; I heard it on the radio a few times and overheard them once on TV in the Midwest, nothing after that. Then just a few years ago I worked with Dennis Hodgkins, the brother of one of the guitarists. He was listening to the band on a tape at work and I vaguely recognized the song. Now that I finally looked up the band and am hearing the entire song with my full attention, all I can say is WOW - these guys were unbelievable and may have become huge stars if not for a couple really weak spots in this their flagship song - the first guitar solo is pretty nondescript and sounds like he wasn't really sure of what he wanted to play; his phrases are not very strong or well thought out. The second solo is better with that creamy 70's distortion and fuzz, but you keep waiting for the climax of a fast run in the high register that never comes. The production is nice, crisp and clear, but they could have done more to make the song jump out and fill in more of the empty spaces - I'm thinking budget limitations on that point. Also, I don't think the public was ready for such a busy bass line - very pretty and melodic but the foundation drops out from time to time, forcing the listener to sort of "piece it together" as he's hearing it. But the basic song and the band - we're looking at absolutely jaw-dropping talent here.

After a few more listens, I'm hearing at least two vocal tracks for each singer which explains the big, full sound on the harmonies. Back then they didn't have today's studio tricks - today they use delay, with an extremely fast echo which effectively doubles the voice when mixed with the unaltered vocal track, making it sound richer and fuller - and for an even cooler effect, they can have the raw vocal all the way to one side, with the delayed vocal on the other side. The result is a vocal that doesn't seem to come from any particular position in the stereo field; it's just "there".
But back then, it was common practice to actually sing and record the exact same thing on two or more separate tracks. Since it's nearly impossible to precisely duplicate every little nuance and sing perfectly in tune with the first vocal track, again the result is a much fuller sound - with only a seasoned musician being able to tell it's actually two or more vocal tracks singing the same lines. Famous singers who almost always double-tracked their lines include John Lennon, Petula Clark and just about anything produced by Phil Specter.
The only vocal parts that weren't double-tracked are when the lead singer says "And you know

Sounds like CSN voices, the lead singer definitely sounds like Stills, and the guitar definitely sounds like him.

They remind me a lot of Crosby, Stills & Nash.
