April Fools is the ninth studio album by Rufus Wainwright, released in 2020. The album is a tribute to his mother, Kate McGarrigle, who passed away in 2010. The album features nine tracks, all written by Wainwright himself.
The album opens with "Trouble in Paradise," a song that sets the tone for the rest of the album. It's a beautiful, melancholic track that showcases Wainwright's unique voice and his ability to write heartfelt lyrics.
The album also features some more upbeat tracks, such as "Peaceful Afternoon" and "Only the People That Love." These tracks are a nice break from the more somber tracks on the album and show Wainwright's versatility as a musician.
One of the standout tracks on the album is "Hatred." The song is a powerful ballad that deals with the theme of bigotry and prejudice. Wainwright's voice is particularly emotive on this track, and the lyrics are both poignant and thought-provoking.
