Lyrics:

You tell me you love me, you say you’ll be true
Then you fly around with somebody new
But I’m crazy about you, you butterfly

You treat me mean, you’re makin’ me cry
I’ve made up my mind to tell you goodbye
But I’m no good without you, you butterfly

I knew from the first time I kissed you
That you were the troublin’ kind
'Cause the honey drips from your sweet lips
One taste and I’m outta my mind

I love you so much I know what I’ll do
I’m clippin’ your wings, your flyin’ is through
‘Cause I’m crazy about you, you butterfly

You tell me you love me, you say you'll be true
Then you fly around with somebody new
But I'm crazy about you, you butterfly

You treat me mean, you're makin' me cry
I've made up my mind to tell you goodbye
But I’m no good about you, you butterfly

I knew from the first time I kissed you
That you were the troublin’ kind
'Cause the honey that drips from your sweet lips
One taste and I’m outta my mind

Ooh, I love you so much I know what I’ll do
I’m clippin’ your wings, your flyin’ is through
‘Cause I’m crazy about you, you butterfly
You butterfly

This recording is a time machine. This is what 1957 sounded like.

Pretty standard sounding record for its time and the "butterfly" lyrics are cute although the concept of a male restricting a free-wheeling female would never "fly" today of course. I was too young to have bought this one (my first 45 RPM single was "Twistin' the Night Away" by Sam Cooke). I don't think my kid ears would've been enchanted by this "Butterfly" because even as a kid I found most of the records by young male crooners of that era kind of schmaltzy (except for Dion!) and I don't like the piano solo on this. However, I sure got on board the Cameo-Parkway train once I heard Dee Dee Sharp and The Orlons! I don't know who the drummer was on "The Wah-Watusi" but DAMN was he right in the pocket... and no computers to fake any of it!

Lyrics:

Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah, hut-hut
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah, hut-hut

Took a walk and passed your house
Late last night
All the shades were pulled and drawn
Way down tight
From within, a dim light cast
Two silhouettes on the shade
Oh, what a lovely couple they ma-ade

But this arms around your waist
Held you tight
Kisses I could almost taste
In the night
Wondered why I’m not the guy
Whose silhouette’s on the shade
I couldn’t hide the tears in my eye-eyes

Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Ty-oh, oh-oh
Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Silhouettes (silhouettes)
Ty-oh, oh-oh

[ instrumental ]

Lost control and rang your bell
I was sore
Let me in or else I’ll beat
Down your door
When two strangers who had been
Two silhouettes on the shade
Said to my shock
Your on the wrong blo-ock
Rushed down to your house with wings
On my feet
Loved you like I never loved
You my sweet
Vowed that you and I would be
Two silhouettes on the shade
All of our days
Two silhouettes on the sha-ade

Silhouettes (silhouettes)

Ty-oh, oh-oh

I have never understood how anybody could prefer Herman's Hermits lame remake to this. Or how any oldies station could play only their version and not this, the original.
