Review by Julez Edward

Zeitgenössische Musik Musikepochen VII is a diverse and fascinating album that showcases the talents of various contemporary composers. From the hauntingly beautiful piano melodies of Olga Neuwirth's "Erlkönig" to the electronic experimentation of Stefan Prins' "Fremdkörper #3," this album offers a range of styles and sounds that will captivate and challenge the listener.

One standout track is "Piano Trio" by Kaija Saariaho, which features intricate interplay between violin, cello, and piano, creating a sense of tension and release that is both thrilling and emotionally resonant. Another highlight is "Konzert für Klavier und Orchester" by Matthias Pintscher, which showcases the virtuosity of pianist Tamara Stefanovich and the precision of the Ensemble Intercontemporain.

Fascinatingly strange. It reminds me of later Autechre music, which is funny because this is among the first pieces of electronic music iirc ofcourse. But in the grand scheme of things my knowledge of music history is rather patchy, to say the least. The knowledge that this was one of the first (i think) sort of gives me a perspective of how strange and novel these sounds can be and still are, but especially were back then.

I think that Stockhausen was a great musician but this kind of sperimentation now is a little bit pretentious. I mean in those days were people like La Monte Young or Xenakis.

I like how track 1 and 2 are comforting then when you proceed you start to feel very uncomfortable and start to feel anxiety
