Review by Jay Santos

Vladimir Ashkenazy is a renowned pianist who has enchanted audiences for decades with his exceptional performances. His latest album, Vladimir Ashkenazy Plays Liszt, is a stunning tribute to the great composer, showcasing Ashkenazy's extraordinary talent and mastery of the piano.

The album features some of Liszt's most famous works, including the Sonata in B minor, Mephisto Waltz No. 1, and Liebestraum No. 3. Ashkenazy's interpretation of these pieces is nothing short of breathtaking, capturing the essence of Liszt's music with his delicate touch and impeccable technique.

One of the standout tracks on the album is the Sonata in B minor, which Ashkenazy performs with incredible precision and intensity. The piece is a true test of a pianist's skill, and Ashkenazy rises to the challenge, delivering a performance that is both powerful and nuanced.

Another highlight of the album is the Mephisto Waltz No. 1, which Ashkenazy approaches with a playful yet sophisticated style. The piece is full of energy and excitement, and Ashkenazy's interpretation captures the devilish spirit of the music perfectly.

Fantastic performance of my favorite of the Liszt Transcendentals.

My favorite piano etude until now. It’s a kind of post-romantic nocturne, it’s sound so different yet gorgeous.

In my humble non-expert opinion, THE best rendition of Harmonies du Soir. The pacing is perfect. Too many pianists play this piece too quickly. This version has so much more emotion and depth.

I don't like the transcendental version as much as the douze grandes etudes one.

ahh, if only this were in 1080p . I love his interpretation, and also the liberties he takes. Both his and Arrau's are different , yet equally beautiful.

By the end of the piece I can’t move.

I love Askenazy his approach to this piece sounds tedious and laboredas if he struggling to stay awake, to finish the piece.
