Angel Dust's debut album, Into The Dark Past, is a masterclass in thrash metal. Released in 1986, the album showcases the band's raw energy and technical prowess. From the opening track, "Into the Dark Past," to the closing track, "Inhuman," Angel Dust delivers a relentless assault on the senses.

The album's standout tracks include "Legions of Destruction" and "To Dust You Will Decay," both of which feature blistering guitar work and thunderous drumming. The vocals of Dirk Thurisch are also a highlight, ranging from guttural growls to soaring melodies.

What sets Into The Dark Past apart from other thrash metal albums of the era is its willingness to experiment with different styles. The instrumental track "Wings of an Angel" features acoustic guitars and a haunting melody, while "Gambler" incorporates elements of traditional heavy metal.

About Angel Dust

German Heavy Metal band from Dortmund, formed in 1984 as Angeldust. Starting as a speed/thrash band that did not survive the '80s, Angel Dust were reformed around 1996-97 with a more modern power metal style. The reformation came about when the original rhythm section of Frank Banx and Dirk Assmuth had been playing in a cover band with guitarist Bernd Aufermann and Frank's younger brother Steven, who suggested reviving the Angel Dust name to record original songs that he and Aufermann had been working on. Aufermann left the band in 2001 and was briefly replaced by American guitarist Richie Wilkison. Aufermann would return in 2004, but around a year later vocalist Dirk Thurisch decided to quit. After five years with Carsten Kaiser in place, but little in the way of serious activity, Thurisch made a brief return to Angel Dust before the band eventually came to a halt. A second reunion was announced in September 2016. The band's first two albums were reissued unofficially in very limited quantities in late 2002-2003. The reissues have no label or copyright info and have two bonus tracks each. Not to be confused with Angel Dust (later Asmodina) from Darmstadt who released a demo in 1985.

German band Angel Dust originally did standard-tuned Thrash Metal before changing genre later in their career. Into the Dark Past sounds identical to Kreator and Slayer with bits of melodic riffing taken from Megadeth and Metallica. Most of the songs consist of E/A palm-muted chords and chromatic progressions typical of the 80's, the vocals are amateurish and mostly spoken/shouted, the production is poor and garage-y and the songwriting is conventional and un-interesting. Only for 80's metal fanatics.Highlights: "I'll Come Back", "Victims of Madness".
