Review by Mohamed Fazal

Asleep In The Sea's latest album, Avenue, is a mesmerizing journey that showcases the band's versatility and range. The album features a blend of dreamy pop melodies, intricate instrumentals, and poignant lyrics that create a truly immersive listening experience.

From the opening track "Bridges" to the closing song "Avenue," the album takes listeners on a journey through introspective lyrics and lush soundscapes. The standout track, "Waves," features a hauntingly beautiful melody that perfectly complements the song's emotional lyrics.

One of the most impressive aspects of Avenue is the band's ability to seamlessly blend different genres and musical styles. The album features elements of indie rock, dream pop, and even hints of jazz, all woven together in a cohesive and captivating way.

Notes

  • This is the final piece of work from Asleep in the Sea. The band broke up right before it was to be released due to the departure of guitarist Tom Filardo. because of this, it has never had an official release, however, the files have found their way to certain places online.
  • I recently spoke to Mark Glick, cellist for AJJ, as well as a personal friend of Owen's and the guy behind Anxiety Machine Records, the tiny label that released Owen's first solo project, ROAR's 'I Can't Handle Change'. I asked him is he knew if this was ever going to get an official release: "It hasn't come up in conversation lately, but as far as I know, those guys still pretty much hate each other, so I doubt that it will get officially released anytime soon, if ever"
  • Consequently, there is also no official album artwork, or even a mockup of cover art that I have been able to locate.
