There are only so many albums that can rightly be called uncovered gems, but The Beauty Room's self-titled effort makes the grade with room to spare. The songs evoke instant familiarity, as if the sound already existed somewhere within the recesses of the mind, simply waiting to be awakened. Kirk Degiorgio's stellar cast blends together like a veteran ensemble, with impeccable harmonizing and jaw-dropping, gliding instrumental interplay. The smokey, soulful, jazzy feel permeating throughout is top-notch, attaining the smoothness of Steely Dan along with aching vocals from any of a number of late '70s crooners. Never forced, bathing in its subtlety that washes over itself in a glorious panoply of sound, while the depth inherent in The Beauty Room rewards the inner being. If I could choose only 500 CDs, this would be one of them. The kind you can go back to again and again without losing anything. The Beauty Room sounds so astonishingly good that what's most surprising is they didn't make a career out of it, because this group has the talent to rub shoulders with the best. They caught lightning in a bottle in 2006, one of the top three albums of the year across all genres in my opinion. Not too bad for an outfit most people don't know.

Been looking for this song for months. Hear it all the time at work! Very nice harmonies.

It's a slight hint of of vocoder which was obviously the idea and it works really well here because the song is so good.. Regardless of that you can still make out that the guy is the real deal. Another wonderful song from TBR

I've only recently been introduced to this band. Really chilled. Fantastic harmonies. There's traces of Steely Dan in there.
