Big Country - The Crossing 30th Anniversary

Review by Sergey Chernyshev

The Crossing 30th Anniversary by Big Country is a must-have for fans of the Scottish rock band. The album, which was originally released in 1983, has been remastered and re-released to celebrate its 30th anniversary.

The album features some of Big Country's most iconic tracks, including "In a Big Country," "Chance," and "Fields of Fire." The remastered versions of these songs sound crisp and clear, and the album as a whole has a fresh, modern feel while still retaining the classic sound that made Big Country so beloved.

In addition to the original album tracks, the 30th anniversary edition of The Crossing includes a number of bonus tracks and demos that give fans a glimpse into the band's creative process. These tracks are a fascinating look at how the band's sound evolved over time, and they add an extra layer of depth to the album.

If you are someone who still listens to (and appreciates) the album experience, I HIGHLY recommend this experience. It remains in my Top 5. Of ALL TIME. I was a young marching band drummer, learning snare drumming rudiments. Focus on the DRUMMING. I listened to it non stop. It led me to the trap set a few years later (12 years old in my 1st band). For drummers: this is a phenom drum album. As for the rest...SAME. R.I.P. brilliant Stuart.

I wish they'd do a proper remastering of this album. It suffers from terrible engineering. The mid-range is piercing and harsh. Trying to listen to this loud in the car or with earbuds is painful. I had the vinyl and recorded it to tape. It never seemed that bad. I have the blue CD and a copy of the red CD with bonus tracks. They're both bad.

I've still got my original copy on vinyl. I don't think there's a bad track on it.

Fondest memories back in the 80s...playing this on cassette with Uni friends as we drove through the Scottish Highlands. Spine tingling, soul nurturing bliss!

This album was on one of the reasons I started playing the guitar at 13. Stuart was the man. Somehow I got a dub copy of it from somebody's LP, but I wish I had the real thing. This album was on it like anything I ever had and I started collecting music about that time. Just brilliant.

Thank you for this ❤️ I'm a Dunfermline lass and went to school with one of Stuart's cousins. RIP a great man, such a talent. So proud of this local band.

When this album came out I played the cassette over and over on my new Walkman.  After many years, I have come back to it and realise why I wore the cassette out back then.  Just a fabulous album and brings many warm thoughts and distant memories to me now.
