This songs reminds me of a modern James brown . I have seen him in Baltimore a few years ago. Good energy from the whole cd.

When I first heard Black Joe, I was enthralled, because this kind of music, particularly the blues sides if it, you just don't hear it anymore. Nobody makes music like this beyond the occasional retro hipster trip ala Leon Bridges and his schtick would never fly in the blues, where soul and grit is everything and sleek production means nothing. Black Joe is the real deal. He sounds like James Brown and inhabits the spirit of the boss himself. I never feel like I'm listening to disingenuous music. I do feel like I'm listening to derivative music. Extremely derivative music, as a matter of fact. I thought "B**ch I Love You" was a brilliant arrangement. Then I listened to "Oh Darling" from Abbey Road for the first time in a while and realized where he lifted it from. Then you hear Master Sold My Baby, and that sounds an awful lot like a Junior Kimbrough song. Eventually I came to realize that while Black Joe is genuine, he is never original; his music is mostly esoteric party music and for me, it feels like a waste of talent. I still like Black Joe. I like his attitude, his voice, I like the tightness of the band. I like the fact he's around making this music. But don't mistake him for being something he is not. I would rather hear Black Joe be a first rate Black Joe and not a second rate James Brown, but what can you do. I hope he finds his own style and stops lifting off better composers.
