Review by Vikram Karve

Without a Plan is the debut album by the New York-based post-punk band, Bodega. The album features ten tracks that showcase the band's unique blend of punk, art-rock, and spoken-word poetry. Bodega's sound is defined by their jagged guitars, driving basslines, and catchy hooks. The album has received critical acclaim for its raw energy and political commentary.

The opening track, "How Did This Happen?!", sets the tone for the album with its urgent vocals and driving rhythm section. The song tackles themes of gentrification and the changing landscape of New York City. The following track, "Bodega Birth," is a standout with its infectious chorus and playful lyrics.

The album continues with "Name Escape," a song that explores the idea of identity and the pressure to conform. "Charlie" is a standout track that features a catchy guitar riff and lyrics that address the issue of police brutality. "Jack in Titanic" is another highlight with its driving bassline and playful lyrics.

About Bodega

Originally formed in Montreal in 1996 by Andrew Rodriguez and Sam Goldberg, the duo recruited drummer Kim Temple and moved to Toronto to record Bring Yourself Up, which was released in 1997 on independent label Vibra Cobra Records. The band then signed to London Records, which remixed and re-released Bring Yourself Up internationally in 1998. Following that label's acquisition by Universal Music Group later the same year, however, the album was poorly promoted due to the upheaval surrounding the take-over; they were offered the opportunity to move to Sire Records, but declined.
