According to GarageHangover:
The Chateaus were formed from The Shadows, who released “Shake Sherry” / “That’s All” on Jam 45-109 in September 1964.
Ray Allen (Floyd Lewellyn) and Hardy Martin owned Top Dog, Boss, Bridges, Jam, Rondo, and Tilt, all based in Kentucky.

Always thought this had a Byrds meets The Beach Boys vibe to it.

Jennie~ I am Jerry Fender, the writer of many of the songs you cite, along with my late partner Jimmy Goodman. We recorded these in Louisville in the sixties. Several bands recorded our music: The Chateaus, The Keys, et al. The biggest one for us was "I'm the One

The Chateaus had several different members over the time it existed. The only two members I know for sure who were on this record were Johnny Coffman on drums, and Frank Bugbee on lead guitar. Bugbee would leave the band and join Soul Inc, and then Elysian Field.

Thanks for this post, Charles! I love these early Warner Bros. 45's, issued at a time when the label was very new (having begun the year before). In fact, the Chateaus were the 21st performing act to have a single on Warner Bros. (#5023, "Satisfied" b/w "Brown Eyes"). Here's a good article about the group: http://doo-wop.blogg.org/the-chateaus-1-a125091676

The second of the three singles released by this group from Newport News (VA) on the new Warner Bros. label (they had previously had one released on Epic). They were quite good; it's too bad they didn't really make it on the charts. Thanks for sharing this rarity!
