Review by Aaron Leitch

The Rising Of The Moon Irish Songs Of Rebellion is an album that captures the essence of Irish music and rebellion. The Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem have done an exceptional job in curating a collection of songs that reflect the spirit of the Irish people during their fight for independence.

The album starts with the title track, which is a rousing rendition of the traditional Irish song that speaks of the rising of the moon as a sign of rebellion. The Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem's harmonies are impeccable, and their performance is full of energy and passion.

The album also features other classic Irish songs like "The Wild Colonial Boy," "The Foggy Dew," and "The Patriot Game." Each song tells a story of the struggle for independence and the sacrifices made by the Irish people. The Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem's performance of these songs is heartfelt and emotional, and they do justice to the rich history and culture of Ireland.

Notes

  • This stereo re-issue of the 1959 recording was most likely released 1966-1968, as the Clancys sold Tradition Records to Bernie Solomon at Everest Records in 1966 (see Tradition Everest for more), and 1969 and later releases featured new cover art.
  • Orange "Tradition Everest" label (see images), however this release has the same front & rear sleeve as the 1961 edition, so the front cover still credits "Tradition Records" and the rear sleeve still credits "Tradition Recordings", but includes the added text "Write for Free Catalog / Everest Records, 10920 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 410, Los Angeles, California 90024"
  • Green "Tradition Everest" label (see images), however this release has the same front & rear sleeve as the 1961 edition, so the front cover still credits "Tradition Records" and the rear sleeve still credits "Tradition Recordings", but includes the added text "An Everest Records Production. Write for Free Catalog / Everest Records, 10920 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 410, Los Angeles, California 90024"
  • Label variant
  • White and Gold label.
  • Re-press of the 1959 album, with the front cover artist credit changed changed from "Sung by Tommy Makem, Liam Clancy, Patrick Clancy, Tom Clancy" to "The Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem"
  • Back label has printed on bottom: "Write for free catalog / Everest Records, 10920 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 410, Los Angeles, California 90024." Vinyl label contains no addresses.
  • Both the vinyl labels and back sleeve list The Everest Record Group, Concourse Level, 2020 Ave. of the Stars, Century City, CA 90067. Back of sleeve is printed and when played on stereo left and right channels are different. May be false stereo recording, but is stereo pressing.
