Live at the Bassline Johannesburg is a captivating album by the late Colin Vearncombe, recorded during his 2005 South African tour. The album features 11 tracks that showcase Vearncombe's soulful voice and brilliant songwriting skills.
From the opening track, "Wonderful Life", to the closing song, "Sweetest Smile", Vearncombe's performance is mesmerizing. The live recording captures the intimacy and energy of the Bassline venue, making the listener feel as if they were right there in the audience.
The album includes some of Vearncombe's most beloved songs, such as "Everything's Coming Up Roses", "Paradise", and "Let Me Watch You Make Love". The live versions of these tracks are just as good as the studio versions, if not better.
Vearncombe's band, consisting of talented musicians from South Africa, adds depth and richness to the songs. The guitar solos in "Ravel in the Rain" and "Blue Sky" are particularly impressive.
