Thompson Twins - Watching You Watching Me

Review by Jeff Trounsell

Watching You Watching Me by Thompson Twins is a classic album that showcases the band's unique blend of pop and rock. The album features catchy hooks and infectious melodies that are sure to get stuck in your head. The band's signature sound is on full display throughout the album, with synth-heavy tracks like "Sugar Daddy" and "Long Goodbye" that are sure to get you dancing. The album also features some slower, more introspective tracks like "Still Waters" and "Love Is the Law" that showcase the band's softer side. Watching You Watching Me is a must-listen for fans of 80s pop and rock, and it's a great introduction to the Thompson Twins' unique sound.

When I heard this on the radio as a kid in the 80's I always imagined the funny sounding voices saying "watching you, watching me" to be the little grey aliens that are known to abduct people into their UFO's at night.

Back when I bought this on CD, the only place I could find it was a Japanese CD. So, of course it came with lyrics as the Japanese thought they heard them. Which led to a LOT of funny misheard lyrics. Like this one... only those whacky Japanese could hear "Dinosaurs are grazing in suburbia" and hear it as "A timeless source of grace in suburbia". I kid you not. That's what they put in the CD insert for lyrics. And in a sense, it's wonderfully appropos for the Japanese with their long history and culture of arts and Buddhism.

"Watching"

Watching you... watching me
Watching you... watching me

I focus on a face in Samarkand
Accepting my reward
It brings alive my distant memories
They're my last resort

Watching you...watching me
(watching you...watching me)

A look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right

Dinosaurs are grazing in suburbia
They're glowing in the dark
Electrified they fight and fuss about
They're eating up the park

Watching you...watching me
(watching you...watching me)

A look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right

Watching you...watching me
(watching you...watching me)

A look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right

The circuit boards are linking up in rhyme
There is no reason why
Except the dreams of soft machines
We have no need to cry

Watching you...watching me
(watching you...watching me)

A look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right

Watching you... watching me
(watching you... watching me)
Watching you... watching me
(watching you... watching me)...

A look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right
Look left, look right
A look left, look right....

I spend all of my time...
Watching...
Watching you watching me
Yeah, watching you watching me
Yeah, watching you watching me...

Judy Do, We are Detective and this deep cut ? Watching. Been here a lot over the years and its the first time I felt like expressing myself. Thanks guys

Rediscovered this gem and the other titles of"quick step and side kick" listening an abandoned cassette in a pub in florence in sep 89. Strange story isnt it? Fell in love once again with T.T.
