Bossa Nova Carnival by Dave Pike is a delightful album that features a great mix of traditional Brazilian music and modern jazz improvisation. The album is a perfect showcase for Pike's virtuosic vibraphone playing, and he is joined by an excellent ensemble of musicians, including pianist Joao Donato, saxophonist Carlos Garnett, and drummer Dom Um Romao.
From the opening track, "O Samba da Minha Terra," to the closing track, "Mas Que Nada," Bossa Nova Carnival is a joyous celebration of Brazilian music. The album features classic bossa nova tunes like "The Girl from Ipanema" and "Desafinado," as well as lesser-known gems like "Canto de Ossanha" and "Samba Triste."
Pike and his band infuse these songs with their own unique energy and creativity, adding new textures and rhythms to the familiar melodies. The result is a fresh and exciting take on Brazilian music that is sure to delight fans of both jazz and world music.
