Review by Gino Parker

Quartet, the iconic album by Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis, is a masterpiece of jazz music that showcases the saxophonist's virtuosity and versatility. Released in 1959, the album features Davis leading a quartet that includes pianist Shirley Scott, bassist George Duvivier, and drummer Arthur Edgehill.

The album's eight tracks are a mix of jazz standards and original compositions, with Davis' signature sound dominating each one. His powerful and soulful saxophone playing is perfectly complemented by the tight and swinging rhythm section, creating a cohesive and captivating musical experience.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Intermission Riff," a lively and energetic tune that showcases Davis' impressive improvisational skills. Another highlight is "Light and Lovely," a beautiful ballad that allows Davis to showcase his sensitive and melodic side.
