About Evans Quartet
The Evans Quartet is the Barbershop Harmony Society's 1960 International Quartet Champion. First formed in 1926 when Doc and Ivey Evanss sons were just kids. They based their quartet off of their Dad, Doc Evans, quartet. The championship version of the quartet consisting of Turk Evans as tenor, Pres Evans as lead, Gene Smith as baritone, and Jack Evans as bass came together in 1957. They won the gold in 1960. They released two record albums and were the first barbershop quartet to release a Christmas LP. They retired in 1981 after nearly 55 years of singing together.

My dad, Shirl Beckstead, replaced Jack Evans as the bass of the Evans quartet, when Jack was transferred out of state. Dad is the Santa clause on the far right in the picture on this Christmas album. I remember the quartet practicing in our basement when I was a young girl. They were a great group of men and darn good singers! This album has been passed down to my children and grandchildren and is enjoyed every Christmas with fond memories of “Grandpa Beck” and his beautiful voice.

My father was in a barbershop quartet and we listened to this masterpiece every Christmas. I'm still listening.

Many years ago I borrowed this record from our local radio station and tape recorded it. Every Christmas my family of 2 daughters, wife and I would play it and sing along. I lost the tape as time went on. Last Christmas we were all together when one daughter found it here on youtube! What a joyful time we all had singing with it again. And now again... Thank you!!!

Love their music. They were the 1960 International Quartet Champions. I cherish the years I associated with Turk, Press and Jack. Turk was the best chorus conductor I ever sang under. Jack was the best Sunday school teacher I have had. Press got me started in business. I took Press to lunch a few months before he died. We enjoyed reminiscing about the old days. I was so glad to enjoy a few more minutes with him. I love and miss them. Merry Christmas Pres, Turk and Jack. Until we sing again.

Who doesn't like a Barbershop Quartet? I know I do and I also like Christmas music (obviously). So combining the two is a natural sound!
