About Grupo Aparcoa
Chilean folk band founded in 1965 by Julio Alegría (vocals, quena, flutes), Leonardo Parma (vocals, contrabass, accordion), Miguel Córdova (vocals, guitar) and Mario Avendaño, taken their name from their surnames initials. Soon Avendaño left and was replaced by Jaime Miqueles (vocals, vibraphone) and Francisco Hermosilla (vocals, bombo, percussion). Hermosilla left and Felipe Canales (vocals, guitar, charango) joined the group. Other musicians who played on the band were Juan Francisco Palomo, Rodrigo Zorrilla, Hugo Pirovic, Marcelo Fortín and Juan Carvajal.
They released their first album in 1970 and in 1971 they recorded the first version of "Canto General" by Pablo Neruda (that would encourage Mikis Theodorakis to do his own version). They recorded three more different versions of this work in the late 70s in Europe where they exiled since 1973. They split-up in 1979.
