Review by Priyanka Tripathi

Horse Lords' latest album mixtape IV is a captivating and experimental journey through various musical realms. The Baltimore-based quartet has created a unique sound that blends elements of avant-garde jazz, African rhythms, and psychedelic rock, resulting in a mesmerizing and unpredictable listening experience.

The album opens with "Fanfare for Effective Freedom," a thrilling instrumental track that sets the tone for the rest of the record. The band's intricate and polyrhythmic drumming, combined with the hypnotic guitar and saxophone melodies, create a vibrant and dynamic atmosphere.

Tracks like "People's Park" and "Integral Accident" showcase the band's ability to seamlessly blend different styles and influences, resulting in a sound that is both complex and accessible. The use of repetitive patterns and shifting time signatures adds to the album's overall sense of unpredictability and excitement.

The album's standout track is "The Radiant City," a sprawling and epic piece that clocks in at over 15 minutes. The track builds slowly, with layers of percussion, guitar, and saxophone gradually added to the mix, creating a hypnotic and trance-like effect. The band's improvisational skills are on full display here, with each member contributing to the track's evolving sound and atmosphere.
