Review by Ed Seymour

The album Kammermusik Für Waldhorn Und Streicher, featuring works by L Van Beethoven, J Haydn, J W Stich, and W A Mozart, performed by Albert Linder, Willi Rütten, and Das WellerQuartett, is a masterful display of musicianship and artistry. The combination of the waldhorn and string quartet is a unique and captivating sound, and the performers on this album expertly showcase the nuances and complexities of each piece.

From the opening notes of Beethoven's Horn Sonata in F Major, Op. 17, the listener is transported to a world of classical elegance and sophistication. The interplay between the waldhorn and the strings is seamless, and the musicians bring out the full range of emotion and expression in the music. Haydn's Divertimento in D Major, Hob. II:14 is a playful and lively piece, and the performers capture the joyful spirit of the music with their energetic and nuanced playing.

The album also includes works by lesser-known composers, such as J W Stich's Quartet in E-Flat Major, Op. 8, No. 3, which showcases the virtuosity of the performers with its fast-paced and intricate passages. Mozart's Horn Quintet in E-Flat Major, K. 407 is a beautiful and haunting piece, and the musicians on this album bring out the full depth and complexity of the music.

German composer and pianist, born in 1770 (baptized 17 December 1770) in Bonn, Germany and died 26 March 1827 in Vienna, Austria. A crucial figure in the transition between the Classical and Romantic eras in classical music. Beethoven led Viennese Classicism to its highest development and paved the way for Romantic music. Beethoven was the eldest son of a singer in the Kapelle of the Archbishop-Elector of Cologne and grandson of the Archbishop's Kapellmeister. He moved in 1792 to Vienna, where he had some lessons from Haydn and others, quickly establishing himself as a remarkable keyboard-player and original composer. By 1815 increasing deafness made public performance impossible and accentuated existing eccentricities of character, patiently tolerated by a series of rich patrons and his royal pupil the Archduke Rudolph. Beethoven did much to enlarge the possibilities of music and widen the horizons of later generations of composers. To his contemporaries he was sometimes a controversial figure, making heavy demands on listeners both by the length and by the complexity of his writing, as he explored new fields of music.
