Review by Austin Keeley

A Walk In The Black Forest by Horst Jankowski His Orchestra And Chorus is an album that showcases the unique musical style of the German pianist and composer. The album features a blend of jazz, pop, and classical music, and is a perfect representation of Jankowski's musical versatility.

The album's title track, "A Walk In The Black Forest," is a catchy tune that has become a classic in its own right. The song features Jankowski's signature piano playing, as well as a lively chorus that adds to the song's upbeat tempo.

Other highlights of the album include "Soulful Strut," a funky instrumental piece that showcases Jankowski's ability to blend different musical styles, and "Lullaby For Lovers," a beautiful ballad that features a haunting melody and Jankowski's delicate piano playing.

For my money the greatest piece of MOR/Lounge ever recorded. Perfectly captures the feeling of the post war German economic miracle rather than the Black Porest. Genius level of piano and strings

This tune takes me right back to 1968 when I was in primary school. Boy that piano sounds so nice n fresh as if it was recorded yesterday too. I also once heard it walking through a railway station tannoy system with my now late father, we were rushing to catch a train. Happy memories but yearning for my dad on hearing this.

First time I have heard the full version. Used to hear a shortened version for the opening theme of The Galloping Gourmet with Graham Kerr in the late 1960s and early 1970s

Reminds me of being in scouts in the 1960’s, I was selling boxes of chocolate truffles and my Sister and I got in them and ate one layer and filled the bottom with paper towels from the kitchen. My Mom picked me up after school and on the way to the grocery store mentioned selling some at the beauty parlor. I remember hearing this song at the grocery store because we lived in a small town and my troop didn’t have a permanent place to meet and were using the managers office upstairs for our Tandy craft project so we heard this tune coming out of dozens of speakers in the suspended ceiling. Anyway I remember the ride home and pounding my head against the car window (‘63 Merc station wagon) and wishing I was dead. The funny thing was I didn’t get punished, it’s my guess it gave her an excuse to eat the rest of the opened boxes herself.

If music videos were big in the mid 1960's, the one for this song could have featured a glamorous gurl walking through a forest and a guy who briefly sees her then rushes through the forest looking for her.

At the end, the boy finds the girl and they walk off through the forest together.

This was the first music I heard from my first valve radio. I loved watching the heaters glow and the speaker vibrate as I wondered how the music could possibly be created by a bit of paper and a few bulbs. I figured it out :-) Still magic !
