Born: 20 August 1942 in Covington, Tennessee, USA.
Died: 10 August 2008 in Memphis, Tennessee, USA (aged 65).
Signed to the record label during the 1960s and 1970s, Hayes played an important role in shaping the "Memphis sound". First active for the label as musician and later songwriter/producer (usually teaming up with ), he enjoyed his biggest success as a solo artist in 1971 with the soundtrack to the movie Shaft. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2002 (Performer).
As an actor, he is best known as the voice of on the animated tv-series South Park (1997-2006).

I remember sneaking to the movies to see Shaft. I was so in awe of a screen full of beautiful brothers and sisters. Never in my life had I seen something that was so incredible and unique. The movie, the music and a brother that was so smart and sexy. I still get goosebumps and to this day I still can't stop thinking about how that made me feel .

Ahh,the early 70's--In music college, playing in my first full-time bands & learning my craft listening to Issac Hayes.If you wanted to gig in those days, proficiency of his music was expected, no excuses.These songs were the practical textbooks for all young players back then.
