Review by Jaime Luis Honrado

Groovin, the album by Illinois Jacquet, is a perfect representation of the legendary saxophonist's talent and artistry. Released in 1961, the album features a collection of tracks that showcase Jacquet's mastery of the tenor saxophone and his ability to infuse his music with a deep sense of groove.

The album opens with the title track "Groovin," a dynamic and upbeat tune that sets the tone for the rest of the album. Jacquet's saxophone playing is both powerful and soulful, and the rhythm section provides a solid foundation for his improvisations.

Another standout track on the album is "It's Wild," a fast-paced number that features some impressive saxophone runs and a driving rhythm section. Jacquet's playing is particularly impressive on this track, as he effortlessly navigates the complex chord changes and executes some impressive solos.

Throughout the album, Jacquet displays his versatility as a musician, moving seamlessly between up-tempo numbers and slower, more melodic pieces. "Like Young," for example, is a beautiful ballad that showcases Jacquet's ability to convey emotion through his playing.
