Jamiroquai's second album, The Return of the Space Cowboy, is a funky and groovy masterpiece that takes listeners on a musical journey through the galaxy. Released in 1994, the album features the band's signature blend of acid jazz, funk, and soul, with frontman Jay Kay's distinctive vocals and charismatic stage presence at the forefront.
Emergency on Planet Earth, the album's opening track, sets the tone for the rest of the record with its socially conscious lyrics and catchy bassline. The title track, The Return of the Space Cowboy, is a standout with its retro-futuristic sound and spacey synths, while Stillness in Time showcases the band's ability to slow things down and create a soulful ballad.
The album also features collaborations with jazz legend Fred Wesley on the track Scam, and rapper Q-Tip on the funky and upbeat track, Light Years. The album's closer, Journey to Arnhemland, is a fitting end to the spacey journey, with its tribal drumming and atmospheric soundscape.
